Earthworks, the development of a landscape design is a client
centered process that begins
with your ideas and aspirations. Our goal
is to produce a
design that is reflective of your own personality and lifestyle. The process begins
with a
site meeting where we can discuss your goals
and objectives. We will walk through the site to get a feel for
the space and how you intend to use your yard. Above all else, the yard
must be functional, giving
you a place to relax or play or entertain guests. In the initial
meeting we will also discuss aesthetics
- colors, textures, favorite flowers or trees - as well as your budget. After a short
brain-storming session where the designer will suggest a few ideas and
get your response, we can give an estimate of the cost to develop the
design. The
cost of the design
depends on the size of the yard, the level of
detail you expect in the drawing and most importantly on the
information and ideas that you provide us. A survey certificate or a
scaled plan of the house and yard is very useful in helping us draft
the basic layout and saves us much time in measuring and plotting the
yard. Concrete ideas about the intended use for the yard, aesthetic
likes and dislikes, and a firm landscaping budget all help us develop a
design that
reflects your personal situation.Most designs cost between $250.00 and $500.00. For that price we will provide 3 or 4 drafts of the design. The first, rough draft establishes the overall layout of the yard and indicates the location and size of major elements such as patios, decks, gardens, and perhaps some of the larger trees. You can then take some time to review the plan and respond to it, suggesting changes and alterations. It is at this point, seeing something on paper for the first time that you may re-evaluate some of your initial ideas. Now is the time to review your goals, both functional and aesthetic. The second draft takes into consideration your suggestions and any new ideas you have presented to the designer. We then refine the basic layout and begin to fill in the detail on the plan. Once again you review the plan and offer your critique. This is often a good time for another site meeting where you and the designer can again walk through the yard and discuss the evolving plan in more detail. Once again, we welcome any feedback you can give us. Have any of your priorities changed since the beginning of the process? Does the plan match your vision for the yard? The third draft fills in the final details in the plan. Along with the drawing, this time, we will include an estimate of the costs for our crew to build the landscape according to the plan. This is where the design process may end. If however, you see some adjustments that need to be made to the plan we will continue with another draft. Once you are satisfied that the plan meets your objectives, we can move on to the construction phase.
