On a sloping lakefront lot in Island Lakes we planted a couple of large spruce trees to provide some enclosure around a yard that is otherwise very open to the winter wind and to the neighbors. On lots such as this the balance between openness and privacy must be handled carefully. Most homeowners want to preserve the expansive views of the lake and beyond, but also want to create a place of refuge.
